Ilorin residents canvass decentralisation of NlN registration
Residents of llorin metropolis in Kwara have called for decentralisation of the National Identity Number (NIN) registration to make collection less cumbersome.
Some of the residents, who spoke with journalists in llorin on Thursday, said creation of more registration centres would reduce the delay in collection.
The residents made the call following extension of the ongoing registration to April, for the NIN by the National identity Management Commission (NlMC).
It was reported that few registration centres created by the NIMC cannot cater for the large number of people yearning for registration.
Alhaji Suleiman Nurudeen of Aruwe compound, Omoda, in llorin West Local Government Area, said there was no registration centre in the area.
He said that effort of some residents and neighbouring communities to get registered had been difficult, describing it as “forcing water to flow uphill’.’
Nurudeen called for creation of more registration centres to enable several people acquire their national identity card.
Another resident, Alhaji Baba Adafila, said that apart from difficulty at registration centres, the issuance always lasted for more than four days.
Also, a Public Affairs Analyst, Mr Paul Ajiroba, called for the decentralisation of the registration process for NIN to fast track the proceess.
Ajiroba called on Nigerians to take responsibilities, shun tribalism and work as one to ensure the progress and development of the nation.
