Ilorin: Court remands man for allegedly sexual assault of 15-year-old girl

A 27-year-old man, Lukman Shaliu has been remanded in prison by a Kwara Magistrate’s court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara state capital for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.

Shaliu was arranged on a two count charge of gross indecency, and defilement of minor girl, an offence which contravened section 285 and 275 of penal code. law.

According to the Police First Information  Report, FIR, the case was reported at C Decision police station, Oja-Oba area of Ilorin. the state capital, by one Adijat Bolanle of Bambari area of Ilorin.

The complainant was said to have reported the matter on March 19, alleging that the suspect had an affair with her underage daughter.

According to the FIR, the girl confessed to her mother during interrogation that the accused had “sexual intercourse with her twice in his apartment around Gambari area, Ilorin.”

The charge sheet also stated that the suspect confessed to the crime during preliminary investigation.

When the charges were read the 27-year-old pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Godwin Azua told the court that investigation on the matter was on going and as such prayed the court to remand the suspect as to prevent him from tampering with police investigation.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Olagunju Ridwan asked the court to grant his client bail, arguing that Shaliu was presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.

In his ruilng, the trial Magistrate J. Salihu ordered the accused to be remanded in the custody of the Federal Prison, Mandala, Ilorin, while adjourning the case till April 27 this year.
