Ill-health crisis: Ondo Gov. Akeredolu transmits power to Deputy Gov. Aiyedatiwa
Incapacitated for several months by undisclosed illness and bowing to pressure, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has finally handed over to the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and jetted out of the country.
Akeredolu on Tuesday transmitted power to Aiyedatiwa via a letter to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji.
It was gathered that the unwillingness to hand over had generated controversies between the duo while travelling abroad for medical attention.
The wife, Betty Akeredolu and son have allegedly been taking decisions without the Deputy Governor’s contribution. Series of media reports and civil socities were also launched by ‘Owo cabal’ to prevent the handover to the Deputy Governor.
Oladiji said in a statement that ailing Governor Akeredolu has embarked on a 21-day medical vacation abroad from June 7, 2023.
The leave will extend to the 6th of July, due to public holidays on June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir (28th and 29th June).
“The Governor, who had directed his Deputy, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to act as the Governor while away, has assured of his resumption on the 6th of July, 2023,” the Speaker said.
He wished the Governor a “speedy recovery and a joyful vacation.”
