Ikosi/Ketu cult fracas: Police arrest 15, recover 2 locally made pistols, restore normalcy

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested not less than fifteen suspected cultist, recovered arms and restored normalcy within  the Ikosi/ Ketu axis.

The crisis which was reported to  have ensued at about 6a.m. on Wednesday   was connected to the revenue generation at the Ketu fruits market.

In Statement by the Lagos State Public Relations Officer CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made available to Nigerian NewsDirect,  the Lagos State Police Commissioner of Police CP Hakeem Odumosu said, “Normalcy has been restored to the Ikosi/Ketu area of Lagos State after a clash that occurred today Wednesday  at 6am amongst some suspected cult groups, Eye, Aiye and Buccaneer, as fifteen (15) suspects were arrested.

“Two (2) locally made pistols, some live cartridges, assorted charms, among others were  recovered from the suspects.”

The Police boss revealed that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad( RRS) and Task force moved briskly to arrest the situation and douse tension in the said area. He emphasized that the Police is irrevocably   committed to  purging Lagos of all criminal activities.

“The policemen including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Taskforce were deployed  to the area to quench the crisis and restore normalcy to the area, and  the suspects have been  transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation.”

He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the crisis was connected to the revenue generation at the Ketu fruits market; and efforts are in top gear to apprehend other fleeing members of the gangs that orchestrated crisis in the area.”

He  however reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting crimes and criminality, especially cultism, in the state.
