Ijebu Youth Hail World Champion, Tobi Amusan

The national leadership of Ijebu Youth Association (IYA) has joined the world over to celebrate the 25-year-old Tobi Amusan for the uncommon feat achieved at the just concluded World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA where she emerged as the World Champion in 100m hurdles at a world record of 12.06secs.

Tobi Amusan, who finished from Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu Ode in 2013 and currently studying at University of Texas, El Paso, USA had during the semi-final of the athletic competition shattered the world record of 12.20 set by Keni Harrison of USA in 2016, posting 12.12secs

In a statement personally signed by the National President of the youth group, Comr Okikiola Fayomi and made available to journalists at Abeokuta, the state capital on Tuesday evening, the youth group which has its teeming members across the six local government in Ijebu land said that, “Tobi’s awesome performance has brought with it so much excitement and hope of a greater tomorrow for every purposeful Nigerian youth”.

Okikiola said ” we received with indescribable joy the good news of one of us, Tobi Amusan smashing the world record and emerging the World Champion in 100m hurdles in far away Oregon, USA making her the first ever Nigerian to achieve this golden success.

“This amazing news of the year has reverberated across Ijebu land. From Odogbolu to Okun Owa, from Ososa to Ijebu Ode, from Ijebu Igbo to Ago Iwoye, from Ijebu Atan to Abigi in Ogun Waterside, the joyous news has continued to spread like wild fire.

“We are extremely happy that Tobi has again demonstrated the resilience spirit of Nigerian youth and most importantly, the diligence, steadfastness, perseverance and spirit of industry peculiar to the Ijebus.

“With the amazing feat of Amusan at the world stage comes with the fact that a greater tomorrow awaits tenacious, focused and purposeful Nigerian youth irrespective of our daunting challenges as a nation

“While we congratulate Ogun State government and Nigeria as a whole for this historical achievements, we are also quick to add that there are many Tobi Amusans outside there waiting to be supported to blossom. The government should help towards this direction and also ensure that like never before it prioritises youth development for a greater tomorrow

“We congratulate Tobi Amusan on this highly deserving victory and pray the good Lord to keep being her guiding light”.
