Ifon-Ilobu-Erin crisis: Omoworare calls for calm, peaceful resolution

…Urges Osun govt to seek expert help

Former Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has appealed for calm and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis between the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin communities in Osun State.

In a statement personally signed by him, Omoworare expressed deep sorrow over the continued unrest, lamenting that what should have been a manageable conflict has now spiralled into a destructive crisis.

“The tragic situation, which has resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property, could have been averted had the state government swiftly deployed appropriate resources and sought professional and intellectual guidance when the conflict was still at a manageable stage,” he stated.

He criticised the failure to implement proactive conflict resolution measures in time, arguing that proper intervention could have prevented the violence and devastation that followed.

“I urge all parties involved to lay down their arms and embrace peace. Violence has never been a solution, and continued bloodshed will only deepen wounds that desperately need healing.

“Our people deserve enduring peace, and it is our collective duty to ensure that this peace is not just temporary but a lasting reality in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas of Osun State.”

Omoworare called on the state government to take firm action in resolving the crisis through effective mediation, dialogue, and reconciliation efforts that promote long-term harmony among the affected communities.

“If there is a lack of expertise in this regard, I strongly encourage the government to seek counsel from those with proven experience in sustainable peacebuilding.

“We must not allow this crisis to define our communities when wisdom, meaningful dialogue, and structured engagement can bring a resolution.”

He emphasised that with the curfew being eased and Ramadan coming to a close, this is an opportunity for reflection and reconciliation.

“Let us use this moment to rebuild trust, foster unity, and restore harmony in our beloved state,” he urged.

Omoworare extended his condolences to the affected communities, expressing solidarity with those who have suffered losses.

“I stand with the people of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin in this difficult time and remain committed to advocating for a peaceful resolution to this crisis. May God grant us the wisdom and patience to build a more united, peaceful, and prosperous Osun State,” he concluded.
