Member of the National Assembly representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency, Hon. James Adisa Owolabi, has been commended for distributing 34,000 exercise books and 2,000 school bags to 25 Primary Schools and 11 Junior Secondary Schools across the constituency.
This is even as stakeholders threw their weight behind Hon. Owolabi for the exceptional representation of the Constituency at the National Assembly.
Hon. Owolabi distributed the educational items on Tuesday as part of the efforts to cushion the effect of school resumption on parents and guardians.
The Rep. Member has remained committed to creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning by facilitating more classrooms to accommodate the ever increasing population in schools.
Obawole Community and Bioyin Community got their first Public Primary school through the efforts of Hon. Owolabi to reduce the risk of travelling long distance to access quality and affordable education.
In less than three years, he has added 41 classrooms to all schools across the constituency with stationery to aid learning and teaching.
While distributing the school items, he described the exercise as a continuous project, noting that “Meeting the needs of his Constituents is not a one-time thing.”
He added, “I know the pain of wanting a quality education with little or no access to basic resources to aid learning for pupils, I come from a family at the lowest class of the society that only food is mandatory the rest is obligatory.
“If I could achieve something in life despite a humble beginning, then using my office to cushion the effect on parents/guardians comes with great joy to me.”
He, thereafter, urged the pupils to strive hard for academic excellence towards a sustainable future development.
On his part, Oniju of Ijuogidi Kingdom, Oba Gbolahan Matthew Ogundimu, applauded Hon. Owolabi, describing him as a man of integrity.
In his words, “When he came in, what he has done so far in Ifako-Ijaye Federal Constituency has been amazing. And I told myself that he is someone that we can support. A man of integrity who has done very well, worked well and represented us properly.
“One advice for him is that he should be going out. Let people know what you’re doing and don’t assign your responsibility for others to do.
“He’s working very well and you can see that with what is happening here, it’s not small money that was expended. Even though it is the federal government’s funding, assuming he decided not to give our constituency, we can’t do anything about that. But he has a conscience and believes that it’s the people who sent him to that place and he has to give an account of everything. That is why he is where he is today.
“What I’m expecting the people of Ifako-Ijaye to do is support this man with all that he has done by giving him another chance.”
Also speaking, Iyaloja Obawole and Iyalode Ifako, Alhaja Chief Monsurat Adeyemi, said, “What he (Owolabi) did today really surprised us. Just look around and see the different bags brought here for us and the exercise books given to the children. He touched all the schools. He has really tried and I pray that God will grant him success with this and the grace to do more after.”
