IEDPU hails AbdulRazaq’s leadership award

By SAKA Laaro, Ilorin

Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, (IEDPU), has joined millions of people, residents and friends of Kwara State to rejoice with the Executive Governor of the State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on the award of “Governor of the Year” being conferred on him by the Leadership Group of Newspapers.

Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, IEDPU National President, in a statement he personally signed, on behalf of the Union, said that the prestigious award was not only well-deserved but also quite timely and a significant way of appreciating the Governor’s outstanding performance in the last two years.

The IEDPU President recalled the achievements of Mallam AbdulRazaq in the realm of education, health and rural development, saying that the Governor has left no one in doubt of his administration’s determination to serve the good of all.

Alhaji Uthman added that the Union was particularly impressed with the purposive peace-building efforts of the Governor across the State. He also described the Governor as a distinguished son of Ilorin and an exemplary member of the Union, who is leaving no stone unturned at building and sustaining peace as the cornerstone of his developmental efforts.

He opined that the Union would continue to appreciate the intervention of the State Government in the takeoff of the Police Secondary School, Ballah in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, for the benefit of Nigerians, particularly Kwarans, several years after it was mooted; among other critical interventions across the State.

The retired intelligence technocrat, however, enjoined the Governor to ensure that more attention is focussed on security of life and property of people and residents of the State for all to continue to live in peace and for the State to keep attracting investors.

While lamenting that the characteristic peace of the State is being mindlessly violated by criminals who were perpetuating nefarious activities particularly in recent times.

He then urged Governor AbdulRazaq to ensure that criminals and any form of criminality are not allowed to fester in the State.

Alhaji Uthman also called on the government to deploy more interests and resources to rural development in order to attenuate the rate of rural-urban drift, saying that it is through this process that food security and integrated development could be ensured for the peace of all.

The community leader similarly appealed to the government to ensure continuous rehabilitation of intra and intercity roads that are getting dilapidated across the State, particularly in the traditional segments of Ilorin, the State capital.

While noting that most of the roads crying for repairs were constructed not too long ago, Alhaji Uthman explained that it was high time the government insisted on quality service delivery from contractors to stem the rate at which public infrastructures decay few years after inauguration.
