Identify safe routes to convey corps members to camps — NYSC

The Gombe State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Ada Imoni, has appealed to the Federal Road Safety Corps, transport unions and other stakeholders in the transport sector to identify safe routes that can be used to convey corps members to their camps.

She made the call in Gombe on Wednesday during a meeting at the NYSC Secretariat with the representatives of transport unions, FRSC and other stakeholders.

“I urge you to identify safe routes, ensure perfect condition of your vehicles that will be used to convey corps members to camps and also discourage them from embarking on night trips.

She disclosed that the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has mandated NYSC state coordinators to liaise with critical stakeholders to ensure that prospective corps members were safely conveyed to their various orientation camps.

She also said that corps members should discontinue their journeys once it is 6:00 p.m., to avoid night trips because of the security challenges in the country.

“It is disheartening when the scheme loses a corps member as a result of road traffic accident,” she said.

Speaking separately, the stakeholders resolved to guide corps members as they board vehicles and to sensitise drivers at the designated motor parks in the state.

They said they would also caution drivers on the need to drive carefully avoid the use of illicit and drugs and not exceed the prescribed speed limit.
