Ibadan explosion: ‘Those responsible must be fished out, punished’ – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that those responsible for the tragic explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday must be fished out and punished.

Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Tinubu directed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to work with the Oyo State Government to offer immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims.

He commiserated with the government and people of Oyo State and called on all concerned agencies of government to unravel the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished,” the President said.

The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, blamed illegal miners for the explosion that rocked Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija area of the city around 7 pm on Tuesday.

The governor confirmed that two persons died and 77 others were injured.
