The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba has called for synergy among stakeholders in the criminal justice system in the fight against gender based violence.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja
Adejobi said the I-G made the call when he hosted the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen in his office.
The I-G pledged the commitment of the Nigeria Police to sustain the fight against perpetrators of gender-based violence in the country.
He said the establishment of gender desks across police commands in the country was an assurance that the police would not treat cases of gender-based violence with levity.
Adejobi said Tallen told the I-G that the visit was part of activities lined up to mark the 16 days of activism against Gender-based violence and violence against children.
She said the activities commenced on Nov. 26 and would run until Dec. 10.
The minister commended the I-G for his love and support toward women and children, evident in salient policies and actions of the Nigeria Police Force.
