The new Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr Yakubu Sanda, has said that he did not lobby to be speaker but was chosen by sheer providence.
Sanda stated this when members of the Jere National Development Association paid him a courtesy in Jos on Tuesday.
“I want to make it categorically clear that I never lobbied for the position of speaker.
“Pengana people gave me the mandate to serve right from when I started this journey and here I am today, as speaker.
“Leadership comes from God who gives to whoever he pleases at the appointed time,” he said.
The new speaker called on the people to support him in prayers in the new assignment and also pray for the peace and stability of Plateau.
He urged all Plateau people to support the Gov. Simon Lalong led administration, noting that in any democratic system, there must be synergy between the three arms of government for meaningful development.
Earlier, President of the association, Rev. Samuel Bako, said that the purpose of the visit was to felicitate and congratulate one of their own whom incidentally became the first speaker from Jere land.
Bako advised him to stay focused and ensure he carried everyone along.
He added that every leadership was not without challenges but prayers from his people would sustain him.
