HURIWA accuses Tinubu of using Wike to undermine opposition with FCTA TSA exemption
The Human Rights Writers Association, HURIWA, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to exempt the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT from the Treasury Single Account, TSA.
TSA is a system designed to ensure transparency in revenue generation and allocation.
HURIWA, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel, said the exclusion of the FCT Ministry from the TSA is an arbitrary move that plays into the hands of the minister, Nyesom Wike, positioning him as a powerful force within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
HURIWA noted that despite holding office under the All Progressives Congress, APC, government, Wike continues to wield influence over the PDP’s internal affairs.
The Newsmen reports that Wike had on more than one occasion announced that the FCT Ministry is not under the TSA, boasting that Tinubu has provided him with everything he needed to succeed as a minister.
“This arbitrary exclusion of the FCT Ministry from the TSA is a dangerous precedent that threatens fiscal accountability and strengthens the suspicion that the APC is using key PDP figures like Wike to sabotage the opposition,” HURIWA stated.
The group emphasized that “this strategy is aimed at ensuring the PDP remains divided and weakened, which will, in turn, make it easier for the APC to tighten its hold on political power and move towards establishing a one-party state”.
