A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt,the Rivers State capital and presided over by Hon Justice S. Biambo has adjourned a case of fundamental human right abuse between one Goodluck Edafe, a journalist (claimant) and NDDC 1st Defendant,Tonye Frank, a Mobile Police Officer attached to NDDC(2nd Defendant), Commissioner of Police(3rd Defendant) and Inspector General of Police (IGP)as 4th Defendant to March,2,2021 for further hearing.
“The matter of application between Mr. Goodluck Edafe (applicant) and the NDDC 1st respondent; Mr. Tonye Frank (Chief Security Officer, NDDC, 2nd respondent,the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, 3rd respondent and the Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force, 4th respondent for orders of the enforcement of his fundamental human rights came up today (Wednesday), 20th of January 2021 before Hon. Justice S. Biambo at the High Court of Rivers State.”
Respondents and their Counsels were not in court and the matter was adjourned for hearing to the 2nd of March, 2021.
You would recall that on Thursday, 21st March, 2019, Mr. Edafe, a practicing Journalist in Port Harcourt was allegedly attacked and brutalized by a Mobile Police Officer attached to the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) resulting to grievous bodily injury.
Lawyer to the Claimant(applicant), Barr E. B. Idam, said that the court graciously granted the application for substituted service on the 4th respondent,noting that it is ironical that those given the responsibility to provide for the welfare of the people have rather chosen to maltreat the people.
