The Human Rights Network has called on the Jigawa State Government of Governor Malam Umar Namadi to address J-Teach teachers Issues.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists signed by its co-ordinator Muhd Musbahu Basirka.

“We acknowledge the government’s commitment to promoting quality education and prioritising the welfare of teachers.

“However, we are writing today to draw the government’s attention to the ongoing protests by the newly recruited 3,000 J-Teach teachers, who have raised concerns about the proposed examination they are required to undertake. It is important to amplify their voices and bring them to the immediate attention of the authorities,” he said.

The coordinator added that, “We understand that assessments are vital to evaluate the competency of educators, it is essential to address the grievances expressed by these dedicated teachers.”

He explained that the dissatisfaction among the candidates stems from several reasons, which have led to their protests and unease.

“We, as the Human Rights Network Jigawa, urge the Jigawa State Government to intervene and engage in constructive dialogue with the J-Teach teachers. It is fundamental to address their concerns transparently and find a mutually beneficial resolution that upholds the principles of fairness and equity,” he stated.

“We believe in the power of collaboration and open communication, and we encourage the government to actively involve the teachers in the decision-making process. This will not only ensure their voices are heard, but it will also foster a sense of ownership and empowerment within the teaching community.”

He explained that, “Quality education is a cornerstone for the development of any society, and it is imperative that we invest in the well-being and professional growth of our educators. By attending to the concerns raised by the J-Teach teachers and finding a constructive solution, the Jigawa State Government will demonstrate its commitment to educational excellence and the welfare of its teaching workforce.

“The Human Rights Network Jigawa and Jigawa Civil Society Forum stands ready to support and facilitate any meaningful dialogue between the government and the J-Teach teachers. We firmly believe that by working together, we can create an environment that encourages the growth and success of the education sector in Jigawa State.”
