The Media Director of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Kola Olabisi, has accused the state police of injection of incivility, harshness, inhumanity and harrassment into the performance of their statutory functions in the state.
Olabisi stated that he was surprised at the uncivil manner that an officer with the name tag of Adewole Osanemo handled him at the main entrance of the state High Court, venue of the ongoing governorship election petition tribunal, this morning.
The state APC Director who got to the main gate of the High Court at 9:30am ahead of the beginning of the tribunal session at 10:00am disclosed that he was turned back by Osanemo despite the fact that he explained to him that he was an interested party at the tribunal.
He said that all the entreaties made to Osanemo to allow him in proved abortive as he kept on saying that ‘that was the order from above’.
Olabisi explained further that he quit the scene the very moment Osanemo gave an order to a police inspector to drive him away from the spot.
In his words, “the Police officer, Osanemo, is a typical bad ambassador of the police which makes the citizenry to have pathological hatred for the men and women of the force.
“Though it is not to conclude that there are no considerate, responsible and responsive officers, men and women of the force, suffice to state that a distorted tooth destroys the beauty of the set of teeth of a dog.
“An officer like Osanemo should not be entrusted with a posting where his professional behaviour would be a dent on the organization that he is representing.
“I see no reason why I should be turned back from accessing the venue of the governorship election petition tribunal when it’s not on record that I am fugitive to justice.
“My plea to the state commissioner of police is to engage in retraining of his workforce in order to constantly allow them to master their effective roles in the society with a view to earning the confidence of the people”.
“The displaying of uncivil, barbaric, heathenish and rude manner of Osanemo towards me this morning succeeded in rubbishing the slogan of the law enforcement agency that ‘the police is your friend’, Olabisi stated.
