15-yr-Old Ayomide is apparently one of few Nigerian teens who may still have the courage to face circumstantial challenges with bravery. The teen had suffered the loss of his mother who was battered to death by his 40-year-old father, Olanrewaju Bamidele. Ayomide will however not take it likely with his father. He would fight to seek justice for his mother, Mrs. Adenike Bamidele.
His bravery is reflecting clearly that the police in Ogun will rely on the circumstantial evidence of the teenage boy to prosecute his father for the alleged murder of his mother. Following his father’s gruesome act, Ayomide had lodged a complaint with the police, giving an insight into what transpired before and after his father, now in police custody, exhibited his beastly cruelty and hatred for his mother, whom he murdered in a most gruesome manner.
In his complaint, Ayomide had stated that there was a minor misunderstanding between his parents on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Bisodun Village, near Ofada in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, resulting in a fight.
“My father suddenly picked a big stick and hit my mother severally who, at that instant slumped and went unconscious. Rather than being sober and attempt to resuscitate my helpless dying woman, my father ensured her speedy death by stabbing her with a screw driver on the head,” Ayomide narrated.
Ayomide also revealed that, after committing the heinous crime, his father went further to dig a shallow grave, with the intent of burying the deceased.
Following the report of Ayomide who hinted the Police of the horrendous act, the Officer-In-Charge of Ofada Police Post, DSP Akinfolahan Oluseye, led his team of detectives to the scene and effected the arrest of the alleged killer-father, who was held down by neighbours while trying to flee.
Confirming the incident in a press release made available to our reporter, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that the suspect was thereafter moved to the Owode-Egba Division, adding that a preliminary investigation conducted by the police revealed that the suspect was in the habit of battering the late woman at the slightest provocation.
Oyeyemi said further that the corpse had been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital mutuary in Sagamu for autopsy, “while the weapons he used to perpetrate the dastardly act, the screw driver and the stick, have been recovered”.
He said, “Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
