How I’ll tackle insecurity, unemployment, bad roads, others – Edo Governorship Aspirant, Omorodion
By Matthew Denis
As the countdown to the gubernatorial election in Edo State draws nearer with a lot of politicking activities, the Chairman, Labour Party in Diaspora, who is an Aspirant, Prince Egbe Humphrey Omorodion (US & UK) is not left out as he has revealed what he will do differently to unseat the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the schedule for the off-cycle governorship elections in Edo State. It also released the timetable of activities leading to the elections.
The electoral umpire disclosed that the Edo State governorship election has been scheduled to be held on 21 September 2024. Edo and Ondo states alongside Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo, are among the eight Nigerian States whose governorship elections are held outside the cycle of the general elections due to the outcomes of previous litigations. Others are Anambra, Osun, and Ekiti States.
Speaking to NewsDirect, Prince Omorodion said “in tackling the menace of constant Insecurity on the people, I will deploy technology-drones to track down all these vices.”
According to him, he will train special security squad using the local indigenes to deploy them into the various forest in the State to fishout the perpetrators of criminal activities in addition to using security camera to map out strategic locations that are always tagged as ‘hot zones for crime’.
Prince Omorodion stressed that in fixing the bad roads, he will train citizens in engineering that will be well equipped who will be used to construct and rehabilitate the various State and Communities roads.
He revealed his government will partner with the Federal Government to ensure that all the federal roads that are crisscrossing the State are put in good condition.
While noting that he’s zealous to return the Edo lost glory, the guber aspirant said the State despite its rich human and material resources is not where it ought to be, arguing that he would offer remedies that will better the livelihood of the masses.
The Medical Doctor turned Politician mentioned that his crux agenda is creating jobs for young people to solve the problems of unemployment in the State.
He said “we have human resources in our hands in Edo, but we are not using one of our most exclusive resources which is manpower to create energy.
“I can help in that area and I have a blueprint that I can use to bring a lot of differences that will really affect our people for good. In 18 months, Edo State will be a different place entirely.
“I spent many years in civil service. I was in charge of budget and budgetary control for Leed City Council, the second largest government organisation in the United Kingdom.
On education, Prince Omorodion said that he will declare emergency by making education compulsory from primary school to the secondary and it will be free for the indigenes.
“We’ll introduce a new curriculum for the students by inculcating our local languages for our people to learn, and enterprenuership skills for them to have vocational talents. We want our students to be thinking outside the box to create things by themselves and become self reliance.
“The tourism sector in Edo as well as the culture of the people is on a rapid decline,” he said , promising that if elected as the next governor of Edo, he would ensure a total turnaround in these areas.
According to him, the Moat of Benin and the Great Walls of Benin Kingdom were built by Benin people themselves who he said do great things, wondering why the peoples’ art and culture life is gradually taking a back seat.
“I come into politics to try and bring back the old glory of the Edo people. Through arts, culture and sports, Edo youths had in the past been gainfully engaged.
He stressed that Edo economy would grow by five times if elected the governor in 2024 considering his global exposure and outstanding managerial skills which he has acquired over the years in managing budget size three times larger than that of Edo.
The guber aspirant advocated that women Inclusion will be prioritized when he wears the no. 1 crown in Edo State, with alot of deliberate special intervention empowerment programmes to eradicate the negative connotation about women in the society.
The LP Aspirant called for the rejection of any candidate who has not been involved in budgetary control and policy formulation, saying this would give room for inefficiency and corruption, insisting that under him, there would be zero tolerance for corruption.
This medium learned that Prince Omorodion along with the likes of former president of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, Chief Kenneth Imansuagbon and others are locking horns for the governorship ticket of Labour Party in Edo, ahead of the governorship election next year.
