How a young lady escaped from kidnappers
A young woman, Taye Taiwo Opeyemi, described how she managed to escape from kidnappers along Oni, Ibiaide Road, Ijebu Waterside, Ogun State, on June 15, 2024, around 4 p.m.
“On that fateful day, I was on my way to Ijebu and had taken a cab from Lagos to Ijebu. During the journey, my cab was stopped by some men on Waterside Road. They demanded that I get out of the cab or they would shoot me. Before I could respond or exit the vehicle, the cab driver was shot, and I was beaten mercilessly. The kidnappers then dragged me into the bush, where I was physically assaulted, sexually molested, and raped.
“They threatened me, saying it would be my last day on earth and that they intended to kill me slowly and painfully. Some farmers who I believe were the owners of the farmland came to my rescue after hearing the sound of gunshots from the bush. I was saved by the farmers, who helped and got me back to Lagos,” she said.
At the time of writing this report, Taiwo, 28 years old, said she’s been traumatised and can’t stop thinking about the awful incident as the driver was shot in front of her. Despite the help she got from the good samaritan, she was still shivering and shaking with some bruises on her arms and legs. Also, she said the awful ordeal has affected her mental health and well-being.
