Hotel cleaner in court for allegedly stealing N780,000

A 20-year- old hotel cleaner, Emmanuel Ogege, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 1,300USD (about N780,000) belonging to a lodger.

Ogege, who resides at 1, Old Union Road, Dopemu, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Glory Godday, told the court that the offence was committed on June 22 at Dan-Mongan Hotel, Dopemu-Agege area of Lagos.

Gooday said that the defendant used a spare key and opened the room where the foreigner lodged.

The prosecutor said that the defendant was caught through the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera.

He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Odufuyi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Odufuyi adjourned the case until Aug. 9 for mention.
