Hot weather: We can only transmit power not generate — TCN addresses consumer demands

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has clarified that it is only involved in the transmission of power.

The TCN made this clarification in a Facebook post as a response to the high demands being made for power supply by Nigerians.

The dry season is usually characterised by low rainfall and sunny weather with Nigerians complaining about the heat.

Responding, the TCN said, “TCN understands that there’s more demand for electricity during the dry season. But remember, TCN DOES NOT generate power. It can ONLY TRANSMIT AVAILABLE POWER GENERATED by GenCos to the DisCos nationwide.”

The TCN stands as the backbone of Nigeria’s power sector, entrusted with the crucial task of transmitting electricity from Generation Companies (GenCos) to Distribution Companies (DisCos) across the nation. Established in 2006, TCN emerged from the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), assuming the responsibility of managing, operating, and expanding the country’s transmission infrastructure.

Despite Nigeria’s vast natural resources, the nation has struggled to provide consistent and reliable electricity to its citizens. Chronic power outages, voltage fluctuations, and inadequate access to electricity have hindered socio-economic development and stifled progress across various sectors.
