HOS working on payment of N70,000 minimum wage – Gov Kefas

In a bid to improve the welfare of civil servants in the state, The Taraba state Governor Agbu Kefas has said that the office of the Head of Service of the state is working on the new national minimum wage table for implementation in the state.

The Governor made the disclosure shortly after signing into law the 2024 supplementary budget in Jalingo on Friday.

He said “the issue of the new minimum wage is not an issue. I had stated that once the Federal Government approves it I will implement it in the state and our workers deserve the best.

“Already, the state Head of Service and his committee are working to ensure the implementation, and as soon as they get back to me, I will approve it.”

Appending his signature on the supplementary budget in his office at the government house Jalingo this Friday, Governor Agbu thanked the Members of the Taraba State House of Assembly for the swift passage of the Bill, describing their attitudes as a display of understanding, support and proactiveness in responding to his request.

Dr Agbu Kefas assured that he will do all that is necessary to give all the people of the State the best leadership.

The Governor added that he would be transparent in dealing with the issues of the finances of the State to ensure his administration achieves its lofty objectives.

Answering questions from Members of the press shortly after the signing ceremony, the Governor said a step has been initiated by his administration to implement the 70 thousand naira new national minimum wage.

He said the office of the Head of Service of the State is working out the table for the payment of the minimum wage, and as soon as they are done, he is going to implement it.

The speaker of the Taraba state, House of Assembly, Rt Hon John Kizito Bonzena on his part said the House gave the supplementary budget an accelerated hearing because of its importance to the development of the State.

He lauded the passion and commitment of Governor Agbu Kefas in moving the State forward.

The brief occasion was attended by the State Deputy Governor Alhaji Abdullahi Aminu Alkali, SGS Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, Chief of Staff, Dr Jeji William Mni, Permanent Secretary Government House Jalingo, as well as some members of the State House of Assembly among others.
