Nigeria has been officially selected to host the 2025 edition of the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV).

This prestigious event, coordinated by the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV), underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in the realm of digital governance and innovation.

Established in 2007, ICEGOV serves as a global platform that brings together representatives from governments, academia, international organizations, industry, and civil society.

The conference facilitates the exchange of research, insights, and best practices in electronic governance, aiming to harness technology to transform public administration and policy.

Over the years, ICEGOV has convened in major international cities, with the 2024 edition scheduled for Pretoria, South Africa.

The confirmation of Nigeria as the 2025 host was announced by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey.

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, the Honourable Minister, stated: “Nigeria’s selection to host ICEGOV 2025 is a recognition of our efforts to drive digital transformation and innovation in governance.

“I am a firm believer in the importance of academia and research in supporting global discussions on e-Governance, and we have seen this reflected in key government initiatives like the National AI Strategy and the National Digital Economy and e-Governance Bill.

“As we prepare to welcome the world to Nigeria, we look forward to meaningful outcomes that will shape the future of digital governance and policy development globally.

With the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) serving as the local organiser, ICEGOV 2025 will provide a powerful platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and policy dialogue.

The event is expected to reinforce Nigeria’s strategic role in shaping the future of e-Governance, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), and sustainable digital transformation.

As preparations commence, the Ministry has called upon stakeholders across government, academia, industry, and civil society to collaborate in ensuring a successful hosting.

The conference will provide an unparalleled opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s digital achievements, leadership in technology, and its commitment to leveraging innovation for sustainable governance.
