May 29, 2023, the very day many Nigerians have been waiting for for the commencement of a new government under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the country’s new President has eventually come and gone into the annals of our history.
This is a day many had thought would not be a reality given some moves made by some people who had thought that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not good enough to be the country’s president or that he had failed to meet up with the constitutional provisions to become the leader of the country.
For instance on Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed the suit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of the ticket that produced Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima, in the 2023 presidential election.
Similarly, a Federal High Court in Abuja equally declined to issue an order of interim injunction to stop Tinubu’s inauguration, as the plaintiffs alleged that the he (Tinubu) lied on oath in the form he submitted to INEC.
There were also reports of some men of God claiming that the inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President of the country would never be.
Even the journey to becoming the successor to former President Muammadu Buhari hasn’t been that of bread and butter for the former Governor of Lagos State and one time Senator of the country.
He has had to pull all his political muscle and wield his influence across the country to pick the presidential ticket of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and by dint of hard work and God’s favour, he won the February 25 presidential election which is still being contested before presidential election petition tribunal sitting at Abuja.
However, to many Nigerians, Tinubu has been one of the very few consistent politicians in the country and whose dogged fight for a more prosperous nation since the dark days of the military government has never been in doubt.
He is largely seen as a political colossus and man gifted with deft administration of the people with his eyes on excellence, always pursuing the greatness of the people.
His brilliant performance during his eight years reign as the Governor of Lagos State as well as his capacity to ensure worthy successors who have continued to raise the bar of good governance in the state is one thing that has endeared our new President to majority of the citizenry.
It is against this background that many Nigerians trooped out on February 25, 2023 to cast their votes for Tinubu believing that he has what it takes to make Nigeria great again.
President Tinubu can therefore not afford to dash the hope of Nigerians that he has promised to renew if given the opportunity to lead the country.
He therefore needs to rule with the fear of God and follow the dictates of the constitution of the country that he had sworn to upheld before the whole world yesterday.
The President should be ready to serve humanity and urgently pursue those projects and policies that will see to the upliftment of Nigerians.
He must according to his promise deal decisively with our bad economy, joblessness, poverty, insecurity, poor infrastructure, epileptic power supply among other factors militating against the greatness of our dear country.
Tinubu must do all that is within his power as outlined in the constitution to stop the killings in Jos, Benue and southern part of Kaduna. He should give the security agencies the marching order to end these absurdities while those caught masterminding these grievous crimes should be dealt with summarily. Let there be no sacred cow.
The President should please not waste time to seek for help to tackle the country’s ailing economy. With a reported debt of N77trillion hanging on the fragile neck of the country, things are really not looking so bright and cheering.
Many believe that, Tinubu is quite exposed, experienced, educated, urbane and had for long been in the struggle for a more better Nigeria, hence now that he has the opportunity to write his name in gold and be counted on the right side of history, he cannot afford to disappoint millions of Nigerians looking up to him.
Tinubu should constantly know that all eyes are on him to mitigate the consequences of bad governance experienced under his predecessor, Buhari and must therefore roll up his sleeves and get down to the business of making the country great again in all areas of our economy.
