The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Hammed Idowu D. Tijani (HID), has commended Hon. Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo (BAO), Member of the House of Representatives for Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency, for launching a empowerment initiative aimed at transforming the socio-economic landscape of the constituency.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Okokoro LCDA, Razak Yekinni, HID described the empowerment programme as a “historic and transformative” move that will create lasting positive change for residents across both Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojokoro LCDA.
He hailed BAO’s initiative as a first-of-its-kind in the region, noting that it directly addresses critical needs across business, education, healthcare, and community development.
“This monumental empowerment programme by Hon. BAO marks a new era of development in our constituency.
“The impact will be felt by generations to come, as it addresses critical needs across business, education, health, and community development,” he said.
The programme, which targets various groups within the constituency, is designed to foster sustainable growth and improve the lives of a wide range of residents, including schoolchildren, youth, market women, artisans, community leaders, and traditional rulers.
As part of the initiative, 177 sewing machines have been distributed to bolster the textile industry, while 130 generators have been provided to support small-scale businesses. Additionally, 110 hair dryers have been allocated to salon operators, and 164 grinding machines have been given to food vendors and other entrepreneurs.
In an effort to further equip local businesses, hand dryers have also been supplied to hairdressing facilities, and vocational training has been offered to 150 individuals, empowering them with essential skills for self-reliance.
The programme also provides financial empowerment, with a total of ₦30 million allocated to support micro-enterprises and families in need. Each of the 300 beneficiaries has received ₦100,000, enabling them to grow their businesses or improve their livelihoods.
Also, BAO has established a cooperative with a donation of ₦10 million to promote community-based development initiatives that will continue to benefit residents in the long term.
Healthcare and community infrastructure have not been overlooked in the initiative. An ambulance has been donated to improve emergency response services, while two Community Development Centers (CDCs) are being constructed with a ₦10 million investment.
Moreover, the empowerment programme includes a focus on education and sports development.
Hon. BAO has provided sports equipment, including table tennis boards, football boots, volleyballs, and basketballs with nets, to enhance youth engagement and education.
HID emphasized that the empowerment programme not only demonstrates BAO’s forward-thinking leadership but also sets a high standard for public representatives across the country.
HID urged residents of Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojokoro LCDA to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by this empowerment programme.
