Harmattan: Enugu Fire Service ready to combat outbreak — Official
Mr Okwudiri Ohaa, Enugu State Chief Fire Officer, has assured residents of the state of its readiness to combat fire outbreak in the state during the dry season.
Ohaa gave this assurance during the fire safety training workshop at Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, on Wednesday in Enugu.
He said that the agency was well-equipped and prepared to combat any fire outbreak be it high-hazard flammable, non-flammable and hydrocarbon fire.
The Chief fire officer said Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi had approved the purchase of Film Forming Fluoro-Protein Foam (FFFP) professionally used in combating all types of fire as Harmattan season drew near.
He explained that FFFP was a highly effective foam used for fighting high-hazard flammable and non-flammable fire.
Ohaa said the governor also approved the refurbishment of six fire trucks and procurement of motor spare parts.
He also approved the purchase of working tools to aid Enugu State Fire Service maintain its prompt response to fire related emergencies, rescue operations and to boost fire prevention and revenue activities.
He said that the workshop at Isi-Uzo was a continuation of the massive fire safety workshop initiated by the current administration in collaboration with the 17 Local Government Area Chairmen.
The workshop is aimed at controlling, preventing and suppressing fire incidents as well as mitigating effects of fire outbreak in the state.
Oha said that the agency adopted the approach of engagement of stakeholders, traditional rulers, President-Generals, Market Leaders, Neighbourhood Watch groups, Forest Guards, Religious and Youth groups to create a safer and secure living environment for the people.
He said that the fire safety workshop would take place in the 17 LGAs of Enugu State.
Ohaa charged the stakeholders to work with the state government to protect their environment in line with the directive of the governor.
He stressed that campaign was in furtherance for Zero Fire Programme in the state and harped on the important role of the stakeholders in ensuring zero fire outbreak in their domain.”
The chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, Mr Jacob Abonyi, applauded Ugwuanyi for equipping the state fire service which enabled it to carry out its onerous task efficiently and effectively.
He stated that the state fire service training workshop had helped in enlightening him and the council on causes of fire outbreaks and preventive measures.
Abonyi thanked Ohaa and his team for the education and enjoined participants to utilise the training for protection, safeguarding lives and property of residents of the council and beyond.
