Hard time awaits operators illegal motor parks, as Benue Govt sets up enforcement c’ttee

Following the constitution of an enforcement committee by Benue State Government to checkmate the activities of illegal motor Parks within Makurdi metropolis, hard time awaits operators of illegal motor parks with stiff punitive measures put in place.

The Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on Commercial Transportation and Monitoring, Yusuf Elaigwu Suleiman, constituted the committee on Wednesday after an interactive meeting with stakeholders in the transport sector.

Suleiman expressed worry over the indiscriminate operation of illegal motor parks within Makurdi town, describing the situation as totally unacceptable.

The committee has representatives drawn from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) Association of Private Motor Park Owners,(APMO), National Union of Road Transport Owners, (NARTO) Benue Motorcycle Association (BEMOA), Federal Road Safety Corp, (FRSC), Keke Napep Riders Association, (KNRA), BENUE State Fire Service(BSFS), Benue Links Transport Company and government appointees.

He noted that the functionality of illegal motor parks within the State capital was creating unnecessary traffic, stressing that the committee will meet with the governor to chat a way out of the menace.

Suleiman also disclosed that with the rise in PMS, the state government was working on introducing CMG enabled vehicles and electric powered commercial vehicles to cushion the spike in transportation.

The Principal Special Assistant to the governor on Local government Monitoring and Coordination, Ioryue Yajir, commended the bold step taken to bring sanity into the worrisome situation while the Principal Special Assistant to the governor on Security Matters and Internal Affairs, Godwin Malu assured transport workers that their concerns such as illegal roadblocks, security of drivers on the highway and other issues will be permanently addressed in no distant time.

Council chairman of Makurdi local government, represented by the Deputy Chairman, Hon.  Maxwell Ador pledged their unalloyed collaboration with the state government in the quest to relocate illegal motor parks to designated parks while the Federal Road Safety Corps representative, Lawal Ishola tasked road users to adhere to road safety measures to avoid accidents especially during the yuletide season.

Nigerian NewsDirect reports that Makurdi branch secretary of NURTW, comrade Stephen Lawal of Keke Owners Association, Suurshater Daniel and Representative of private Motor Park Owners, Chigoze Bernard all pledged to collaborate with state government in tackling the issue of illegal roadside motor parks.
