Hairdresser arraigned in Abuja court for contract breach

A 30-year-old hairdresser, Victoria Agbo, was arraigned in a Karu Upper Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday for allegedly breaching a contract.

Agbo, who resides in Kpeyegyi, Abuja, is facing charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court was informed by the Prosecution Counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju, that the complainant, Stella John of Jikwoyi, Abuja, reported the matter to the Karu Police station on June 29.

According to Adeyanju, the complainant had entrusted her salon, located in Angwan Hausawa, Karu village, to the defendant for commercial purposes on February 15.

The police alleged that Agbo agreed to remit a monthly payment of N20,000 to the complainant.

However, she not only used all the money made from the salon between February and June for her personal use but also sold weavons, resulting in a total amount of N130,950. The offence is said to contravene sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Mr Ishaq Hassan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150,000 and required one surety in the same amount.

The case has been adjourned until September 6 for further hearing.
