Gunmen strike in Edo, kill police inspector, expatriate, three others

Gunmen have reportedly killed a Police Inspector, an expatriate and three other workers of a quarry company in Edo State.

The quarry firm is located at Ihievbe-Ogben in the Owan East Local Government Area of the State

It was gathered that a Police Sergeant was also shot in the leg during the attack while a female staff of the company has still been missing since after the incident.

The Police Inspector, whose identity is yet to be ascertained and the Sergeant were orderlies to the company’s expatriate before the incident.

When contacted the Edo State Police Command who confirmed the attack said only three persons were killed.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Yamu Moses, who spoke to journalists in Benin City said the dead persons include one Police Inspector and two others.

Moses said an investigation into the incident is ongoing while efforts in collaboration with the military to apprehend the suspects are in progress.

But the locals who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity said the deceased police officer died on the spot.

They also said the expatriate later died in the hospital while the injured Sergeant is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

They added that the female staff, said to be an accountant with the company, was still missing, suggesting that she must have been kidnapped by the gunmen.

The gunmen were alleged to have laid an ambush for the expatriate on the way to his base after the close of work on the fateful day.
