Gunmen kill several, set fire to homes and shops in Yobe

Gunmen, believed to be Boko Haram insurgents, attacked Mafa village in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe. The assailants looted and torched numerous shops and homes in the area.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command in Damaturu on Monday said that the attack took place around 4 p.m. on Sunday. The exact number of casualties remains unknown.

Residents Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim reported the assault to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station. The attackers, armed with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades and traveling on over 50 motorcycles, targeted Mafa Ward, setting many properties on fire and killing several individuals. The terrorists also left behind flyers with Arabic writing.

In a related incident, at least three students from Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area were confirmed dead following an early Friday attack by gunmen.
