Gunmen kill 11 in Plateau attack

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the killing of 11 people by gunmen in Rubi community, Butura District, Bokkos Local Government Area.

In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, disclosed that the assailants struck on the night of March 27, opening fire indiscriminately on residents attending a wake.

“On March 27, at about 10:00 p.m., we received a report that gunmen invaded Ruwi village at approximately 9:20 p.m., firing sporadically. Sadly, several community members lost their lives, while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the statement read.

Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, personally visited the scene, condemning the attack and assuring residents of swift action against the perpetrators.

Similarly, the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) confirmed the death toll and called for increased security in the area.

The Plateau State Government has also condemned the violence, urging security agencies to track down those responsible. Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, appealed to the community to remain calm and refrain from retaliatory actions.

She reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that every effort would be made to restore peace.
