Gunmen have reportedly killed a man in the Bodo community of Gokana Local Government Area in Rivers State.
The attack occurred following a planned protest by community members over the recent killing of two youths from the area.
However, the victims were shot by the gunmen at a pipeline surveillance site, while one person managed to escape with a bullet wound.
After killing their target, the armed criminals fired shots indiscriminately in the community before fleeing into a nearby bush.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, last week held a stakeholders meeting where he directed the paramount ruler of Bodo to return and take over the affairs of the community.
The directive by the police commissioner has been rejected by some members of the community.
In the meantime, some indigenes of the community appear to be resolved in their decision to protest against the insecurity in their land and against the directive of the CP.
Women, men, youths, and other stakeholders were seen gathered in a town square in the community.
