By Ismail Azeez, Osogbo
The Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, Prince Gboyega Famodun has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and presidency to call the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to order over allegedly disruption of peace of the state.
Famodun, in a statement personally signed on Tuesday and made available to Nigerian NewsDirect in Osogbo, Osun State capital, also urged the presidency to intervene against the assaults of desperate politicians in the state.
He said the Immediate Past Governor Aregbesola is using the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as an instrument to disrupt the peace of the state which the residents had been enjoying before his arrival to Osun on Monday.
He also accused the NSCDC of abandoning their legal duties to provide cover for people but opted for being used to cause tension in the state adding that they did not value blood of innocent citizens.
Recall that there was a pandemonium in Osogbo on Monday evening as operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps on the entourage of the former Governor of the State and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola shot sporadically into the air.
The incident, which happened at the busy Station Road near popular Orisumbare market, Osogbo made many marketers run helter skelter for the safety of their lives.
According to Famodun, “Osun has remained safe until the countdown to its party primaries. On the evening of February 14, the men of Civil Defence drove aggressively through the state capital, providing cover for the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and causing disruption of peace.
“We are calling on the Presidency to call the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, and the Civil Defence Corps to order. Our party, the APC, the government and the citizens of Osun are not interested in any form of violence, and the selfish ambition of an individual or group isn’t worth the blood of any Osun citizen.
“It is ungodly, unfair and immoral for anyone to deploy taxpayers’ money against taxpayers, just like the Minister of Interior is doing with the men of Civil Defence Corps.
“We want the Presidency and all security agencies to urgently address the fire being stoked in Osun by the Minister of Interior and his henchmen,” he said.
