Guber polls: Six persons feared dead in multiple gunmen attack

As the governorship and state Assembly elections wind down across the states of the federation, no fewer than six people have been reported dead at different locations in Gboko Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

According to reports, one of the six deceased persons had attempted to snatch a ballot, before he was gunned down by security operatives at a polling unit in the local government.

It was gathered that other hoodlums, who also took the ballot boxes, sustained varying degrees of injuries during voting in the Gboko South LGA.

A source anonymously disclosed that one of the ballot box snatchers was killed in Abagu, a community within Gboko and another two were also shot at different polling units at NKST Primary School Gboko South, while the others were killed in Hausa quarters area of the town.

He said, “The information we got is that the six persons were killed when they disrupted voting and attempted to snatch ballot boxes at the different locations in Gboko.”

However, the Local Government Council Chairman, Mr. Isaac Mtom, refuted the casualty figure, saying he was told that only one person died in the LGA.

“I have report of one incident in Gboko South and I am even yet to confirm that the person is dead,” he said.

Reacting, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene said she was yet to receive details of the incidents.
