Guber Election: AIG cautions party stalwarts against violence, threatens arrest, prosecution

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone six, Jonathan Towuru has warned political party chieftains as well as candidates for tomorrow’s governorship and state assembly election in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States not to incite, organise or be involved in any forms of violence.

In a statement signed by the zonal PRO, Nelson Okpabi and made available to News Men today, the AIG warned that culprits would be severely dealt with.

“Party stalwarts and contestants are advised to caution their supporters/party stalwarts to desist from any act of violence or lawlessness as security agents will not hesitate to deal decisively with such persons.

Towuru also ordered Election Commissioners of Police in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States to ensure effective deployment for the gubernatorial and state assembly election.

He re-echoed the directives of the Inspector General of Police, demanding that Strategic Election Managers across the country enforce the IGP’s orders on the restriction of vehicular movement, adequate deployment of security for INEC facilities, sensitive/non-sensitive materials, electorates and observers.

Towuru also issued a stern warning to all Police Officers to remain apolitical and professional in the discharge of their duties before, during and after the March 18th gubernatorial and States Assembly election.
