Guber 2026: APC leaders in Ekiti Central endorse Oyebanji
Prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti Central Senatorial District have thrown their support behind Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the 2026 governorship election.
The endorsement was made during a special senatorial meeting at Fajuyi Pavilion, Ado Ekiti, attended by key APC stakeholders, including Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and former Deputy Governor, Professor Modupe Adelabu. Other notable figures present included Senator Babafemi Ojudu, former Commissioner Mrs Ronke Okunsanya, and serving House of Representatives members Mr Biodun Omoleye and Mr Sola Fatoba.
Adelabu clarified that the endorsement did not prevent other APC members from contesting but reflected strong support for Oyebanji’s leadership.
Addressing the gathering, Bamidele emphasised that backing the governor was a step towards continuity and sustained development in Ekiti. He commended Oyebanji’s achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment, highlighting the positive impact of his economic policies.
Ojudu also praised the governor’s efforts in unifying the party and promoting economic growth, citing the Adire Ekiti Hub as a transformative initiative. He noted that under Oyebanji’s leadership, the state had experienced peace and stability, adding:
“For the first time since 2003, people can sleep peacefully without fear. There have been no politically motivated killings, and he has embraced former opponents. His humility and leadership deserve a second term, and we will ensure his victory.”
In response, Oyebanji expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and APC members for their unwavering support. As a native of the district, he pledged to continue driving development and reducing poverty while ensuring fairness in the political process.
“My deputy and I accept this endorsement with humility. However, this does not prevent any APC member with governorship ambitions from contesting in a fair competition,” he stated.
