Group pitches ex-SSG to contest 2027 Bauchi governorship
Rauf Oyewole, Bauchi
A political group, Initiative for Barrister Ibrahim Kashim has urged the immediate past Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim to his hat in the ring and contest for the 2027 Bauchi governorship election, claiming his antecedent.
Kashim served as Bauchi SSG from June 2021 before he left the government last year. He was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 before he stepped down for Bala Mohammed who contested the presidential ticket of the party and lost.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the Project Coordinator of the Group, Adamu Muhammed Abdullahi, said that the advocacy is “not rooted in ethnic, tribal, or zonal considerations” but rather in the need to harness the immense reservoir of competence, vision, and leadership that Bauchi Local Government has to offer.
“As a state, we must move beyond geographical biases and embrace a governance structure that prioritises excellence, integrity, and service to the people.”
“I stand before you today to unequivocally endorse the statement made by our revered elder statesman and political expert, Alhaji Garba Mohammed Noma (Jarman Bauchi). His timely and insightful call for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to present a gubernatorial candidate from Bauchi Local Government for the 2027 elections is not just a political appeal but a clarion call for equity, meritocracy, and sustainable development in our dear state.
“It is, therefore, imperative that all critical stakeholders-including political parties, community leaders, opinion-shapers, and the electorate-rally behind this noble cause. Together, we must work to identify and support a candidate who embodies the principles of good governance, accountability, and progress.
“In this regard, I strongly and confidently recommend Barrister Ibrahim Kashim Mohammed, a seasoned administrator and public servant whose contributions to Bauchi State have been nothing short of exemplary. As a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Kashim has demonstrated an exceptional ability to formulate and implement policies that address socio-economic challenges while fostering growth and development.”
Abdullahi said that his unwavering commitment to the progress of Bauchi State was further exemplified when he selflessly stepped down as the gubernatorial candidate in the last election, paving the way for Bala Mohammed, to contest for governor after his presidential bid. “Such an act of sacrifice and loyalty underscores his dedication to the collective good of our state.”
He appealed to the residents of Bauchi to set aside “parochial interests and prioritize the collective advancement of Bauchi State. The future of our state depends on the choices we make today. Together, let us choose a leader who is prepared, capable, and committed to leading Bauchi into a new era of sustainable development and inclusive growth.”
