Group moves to end open defecation in Rivers State

…Inaugurates Wash System Project

The Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, District  9141 Nigeria, in partnership with Rotary Club, North Stockton has commissioned a global grant project tagged ‘Wash System’ to address open defecation in five communities in Rivers State.

The affected communities include: Okogidi, Ogbolo, Upikuma, Udokpo and Ogururu all in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

While commissioning the project, the District Governor of Rotary Distict, 9141, Rtn. Eyone Andy Uwejeyan, said he was excited with the perfect execution of the project by the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi in collaboration with Rotary Club of North Stockton, District 5220.

This, the District Governor said, is geared towards impacting positively on the lives of the masses, which falls in line with the seven areas of focus of Rotary Club.

“I think what Rotary Club has done in Degema Local Government Area today is a clear testament of what they can do to improve the lives of the down trodden in our society,” Uwejeyan said.

He commended the people of Degema for their cooperation in providing enabling environment for the completion of the global grant.

He urged them to sustain the tempo so as to attract other better things to the community.

The District Governor also used the opportunity to charge the chiefs and elders of the various communities where the projects were sited to monitor the use of the facilities, with a view to ensuring their proper maintenance.

He reminded them that Rotary Club as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) attaches premium in sustainability of all its projects sited at every community.

Also speaking, the President of Rotary Club, Trans Amadi, District 9141, Nigeria, Rtn Chinwe Asanga, expressed his happiness on the successful completion and commissioning of the global grant project in Degema Local Government Area.

“In fact, I’m not only happy, but very accomplished meeting up with the demands of the communities who were so worried over the incessant danger of using the pit toilets that had claimed some lives in the area.

“However, I can assure you, that the members of Rotary Club have come to put to an end the open defecation system in most communities in Degema Local Government Area even as we are thanking our District Governor for sparing time to come and commission the project,” she said.

Asanga also charged the communities who benefitted from the projects to try and protect the facilities, so that it could serve them for the purpose it was executed.

Earlier, HRH. Chief Precious Abadi who spoke on behalf of other Degema chiefs  lauded the magnanimity of Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, District 9141 Nigeria for embarking on the project that has positive bearing in the lives of the masses.

He prayed that God will replenish their purse from where they got the money to invest meaningfully in their fellow human beings.
