Group lauds Buhari, Tinubu over extension of  Naira swap

Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The Asiwaju Strikers, Ogun State Chapter has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola  Tinubu, on the extension of deadline for the swapping of old Naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This was according to statement from the Media Director of the group, Mr Femi Osinubi on Monday.

The CBN had, on Sunday, announced a 10-day extension of the deadline from the initial January 31, 2023 to February 10, 2023 to allow for the collection of old notes in exchange with the redesigned ones.

The group said the cheering news, no doubt, was a welcome development in view of the fact that the extension would douse the rising tension generated across the country by the previous currency swap arrangement.

It stated further that the extension also shows that Buhari’s administration has listening ears and readily identifies with the wishes and concerns of the generality of Nigerians.

The group said also worthy of appreciation is Tinubu, whose courageous pronouncement on the problems facing the masses, inevitably catalysed the process necessitating this currency swap extension.

It revealed that “at a time other presidential candidates were hypocritically mute and indifferent about the plight of the citizens, the APC presidential candidate boldly pointed attention to the widespread difficulties caused by the chaotic measure of the apex bank.”

The group said, “It is instructive to note that Asiwaju Tinubu defied self-serving critics and rose in defence of Nigerians, by speaking truth to power at the recent Abeokuta campaign rally of the ruling party.

“He did not play the ostrich. Rather, he was compassionate and empathetic towards powerless countrymen and women. Indeed, his stance is the hallmark of great leaders; they place the interest of the people far above selfish, parochial considerations.

“As Nigeria inches closer to the general elections, we wish to remind the citizens, especially the electorate, to trust in the leadership of the APC flagbearer and support his emergence as the next President of the Federal  Republic. Our country is headed towards a defining moment and we all must choose right by voting for Asiwaju,” the statement concluded.
