A group under the auspices of North East Youth Control Center (NEYCC) has applauded the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its revenue generation reforms.
Alhaji Babangida Ajiya, Coordinator of the group gave the commendation at its quarterly meeting on Monday in Bauchi.
Ajiya said that the NCS has enthroned viable revenue generation reforms under the watch of its Comptroller-General, Mr Ibrahim Hameed-Ali
According to him, the reforms enabled the NCS to generate huge revenues in 2020
“From available reports, in 2020 alone, the Nigerian Customs generated a revenue of N1.5 trillion, this is huge when compared to N1.3 trillion in 2019.
“Customs was able to realise more than half of the targeted revenue for the year due to blockage of identified leakages,” he said.
The coordinator further stated that such feat demonstrated the resourceful nature of the current leadership of the service.
“We have not seen such level of transformation in the system, the current administration ensures strict enforcement of extant guidelines.
“The reforms have also tackled corruption in the system; annual declaration of asset by officers is now compulsory, to enthrone transparency,” he said.
Aliya stated that the e-Customs Project, a digital platform and all-encompassing automation system was laudable.
“Payment, border management, export and import processing have been designed to migrate the service from paper to paperless operations,” he said.
