Governorship election: 125,928 new PVCs were collected in Edo in 5 days – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that out of the 184,438 newly issued Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) in Edo State, 125,928 have been collected ahead of the September 21 governorship election. Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, announced this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

This collection represents 68.3 percent of the new cards issued during the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise, marking the highest collection rate recorded by INEC since the introduction of the CVR for off-cycle governorship elections in 2015.

The PVC collection took place across all 192 wards in Edo State from August 22 to August 26 through a well-coordinated effort by INEC. The commission has successfully concluded the ward-level collection and has organized the PVCs by polling units, wards, and LGAs. A collection register detailing the voters whose cards are ready has been uploaded to INEC’s website.

A breakdown of the collection by LGAs is also available on INEC’s website and social media platforms. Collection will continue at INEC offices in all 18 LGAs in Edo from Wednesday until September 8. Olumekun urged remaining voters to collect their PVCs from INEC LGA offices and reiterated the policy that cards must be collected in person, with detailed office locations available on the commission’s website.
