Gov. Yusuf inaugurates judicial commission of inquiry into violent protest

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has established a 14-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry (JCI) to investigate the violent protest that rocked Kano, resulting in loss of lives, looting, and destruction of properties.

The commission, led by retired Justice Lawan Wada Mahmoud, is tasked with uncovering the perpetrators and sponsors of the destruction. Governor Yusuf challenged the panel to investigate the missing documents at the high court complex, including criminal files and looting exhibits.

The terms of reference for the commission include investigating the remote and immediate causes of the destruction, identifying individuals and groups responsible for the unrest, ascertaining the extent of damage and loss of lives and valuables, and recommending ways to avoid future occurrences.

The commission is guided by the provisions of Section 8 of the Kano State Commission of Inquiry Law, Cap 36, Laws of Kano State of Nigeria, 2018. Other members of the panel include Barrister Tajuddeen Funsho, Alhaji Sani Isa Asia, Prof. Musa Muhammad Borodo, and others.

Chairman Justice Lawan Wada Mahmoud promised to conduct the assignment to the best of their ability without fear or favour.
