Gov. Umahi sacks Ebonyi’s Education Supervisors, Secretaries over suspected fraud

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi has sacked all Education Secretaries and Zonal Education Supervisors as part of efforts to improve the state’s educational system.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Wednesday and signed by Dr Kenneth Igwe, Secretary to the State Government. It alluded to fraud in the state’s education sector.

According to the statement, the sack is fallout of the emergency meeting between the governor and stakeholders in the education sector on how to improve education in Ebonyi.

Dr Igwe stated that the meeting resolved that “all the Education Secretaries that are on leave are to face disciplinary action to ascertain the level of their involvement in the fraud in our education system.

“All the Education Secretaries that are on leave are hereby removed from office.

“All teachers, headmasters and principals (both Junior and Senior Secondary Schools) are to be reshuffled within their Local Government Areas.

“Local Government Councils chairmen are to liaise with concerned authorities to carry out this directive.

“Zonal Education Supervisors are by this announcement removed from their offices.’’

The governor directed all Local Government Areas to organise education and health submits, which should focus on the re-evaluation of the state’s education and health systems.

“This summit will be coordinated by the Office of Secretary to the State Government from July 1, 2021.

“All headmasters and principals of schools are hereby directed to ensure regular cleaning of their school premises.

“Also, every pupil, student and staff of each school is to plant at least one tree and this should be supervised by the 13 council chairmen in their various LGAs,’’ the statement added.
