Gov. Oyebanji moves to implement minimum wage, sets up negotiation committee

In a bid to ensure the implementation of the minimum wage law signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 30th, 2024, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has set up a 13-member negotiation committee to engage with organised labour in the state.

The committee, comprising government officials and leadership of organised labour, is tasked with negotiating the modalities for the implementation of the minimum wage payment in the state.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode on Sunday, the committee is chaired by the Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Folakemi Olomojobi.

Other members of the committee include the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akintunde Oyebode; Special Advisor on Labour Matters, Comrade K. Faromiluyi; Accountant General/PS, Mrs. Titilayo Olayinka; and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Bamise Sunday Julius.

The organised labour representatives on the committee are Comrade Olufemi Ajoloko, Chairman, Joint Negotiation Council; Comrade Olatunde Kolapo, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress; Comrade Sola Adigun, Chairman, Trade Union Congress; and Comrade Yetunde Emmanuel, Secretary, Joint Negotiation Council.

The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4th, 2024. Oyebode stated that the committee’s negotiation is a precursor to the commencement of the minimum wage payment in the state.
