Gov. Mutfwang commiserates with Plateau traders after devastating fire at Terminus Market

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State visited Terminus Market on Thursday to offer his condolences to traders affected by a fire that broke out on Wednesday night, destroying over 500 makeshift shops.

The fire, which struck in the early hours, caused widespread damage to the market, leaving many traders devastated. Mutfwang visited the site to assess the extent of the destruction and expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of livelihoods caused by the fire.

He described the incident as a significant setback for the state’s economic prosperity, particularly at a time when Plateau is already grappling with various security and economic challenges.

“The scale of the destruction is heart-wrenching,” the governor said. “This disaster has taken a toll on the traders, and it could not have come at a more difficult time for the state.”

Mutfwang assured the traders that his administration would support those affected by the fire disaster. “I have been informed by security agencies that the fire was likely caused by an electrical spark, which was made worse by the nature of the makeshift structures around the market,” he explained.

He also noted the painful impact of carelessness or negligence leading to such a devastating event. “It is incredibly unfortunate that a moment of neglect has resulted in this level of damage,” Mutfwang added.

The governor expressed his sympathy to the traders who lost their goods and emphasised that the government would work to explore avenues for assisting them in rebuilding their businesses.

“I understand the enormity of this setback, but I want to assure you that the government is committed to helping you recover and get back on your feet,” he said.

Mutfwang called for the cooperation of the traders as the government works on implementing safer alternatives for business operations across the Jos metropolis.
