Gov. Lalong tasks ex-lawmakers on addressing nation’s challenge

Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong  has said that ex-lawmakers of the state have critical role to play in proffering solutions toward addressing challenges of the nation.

Lalong, at a meeting with former members of the Plateau State House of Assembly (PLHA), on Tuesday in Jos urged the lawmakers to promote national unity,

The governor, in a statement by his Director, Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham, said the former members should always put the interest of the state above any other consideration.

He said that this was as the lawmakers championed the consolidation of peace and progress in Plateau.

He further said that the forum of former legislators was necessary to harness their experiences and knowledge in addressing some of the challenges in the state and nation.

“As former members of the legislative arm of government, we have to come together and discuss the progress of Plateau.

“This is the moment for us to work across party lines which is common practice in the floor of the house, especially when it affects critical issues.

“We can also practice this even if we are no longer legislators,’’ he said.

The governor called for synergy between past and serving legislators at the state and federal levels, irrespective of party affiliations, to promote the interest and progress of the state.

He said the bill on the newly approved Federal Polytechnic, Shendam, was initially spearheaded by Mr Johnbull Shakarau, a former PLHA member who later went to the House of Representatives, and collaborated with other elected representatives to champion the cause.

Earlier in his remarks, the Acting Chairman of the Forum, Mr Maimako Bello congratulated Lalong on his achievements, especially his doggedness to ensure the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Shendam.

Bello applauded the governor for his commitments to their welfare, by settling their outstanding entitlements and reaching out to them at individual levels.
