Gov. Kefas unveils 250 tractors to support farmers, train youths on usage

To mark one year anniversary, the Governor of Taraba state, Dr. Agbu Kefas today unveiled 250 Tractors out of 850 to support farmers in Taraba State – marking a significant milestone in his administration.
Governor Kefas emphasised the vital role of agriculture as the backbone of the state and acknowledged the many challenges farmers have faced.
He said, “Today, we take a significant step in overcoming these challenges. This represents a new era when Farmers will not be limited by lack of equipment. These tractors will certainly reach those who truly need them. Our goal is to empower farmers – to produce more. Also, we are investing in training programs to ensure they acquire all the necessary skills.”
Governor Kefas stressed the importance of infrastructure development, such as irrigation systems, to further boost agriculture. He acknowledged the contributions of farmers, calling them the heartbeat of the State’s efforts.
“The journey ahead may still have challenges, but with shared vision and determination, we will transform Taraba into an agricultural hub,” he stated.
The Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Nicholas, noted that this is the first time the state government has provided such facilities. He mentioned that over 250 youths have been trained to use the tractors effectively.
A representative from the SALEK company, Czech republic supplying the tractors, praised Governor Kefas for his efforts and expressed continued support for Taraba’s agricultural development. The Chairman of the Rice Association of Taraba State commended the Governor, noting that these Tractors have already reduced poverty in the state by 30 percent.
The Czech Republic Ambassador’s representative emphasised the growing partnership between the Czech Republic and Taraba State, hoping for future collaborations in food processing.
