Gov Diri pays tribute to late mother at 12th memorial service

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Thursday, paid tribute to his late mother, Madam Rose Diri (née Young Esime), describing her as a virtuous and God-fearing woman who instilled in her children the values they uphold today.

Diri led family members, community leaders, government officials, and well-wishers to the 12th Memorial and Thanksgiving Service held in her honour at the Ayamasa Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area (LGA).

Speaking at the service, the Governor recalled his mother’s compassion and warmth, revealing that she welcomed all who crossed her path with open arms.

The memorial service was officiated by Bishop Funkuro Amgbare, who offered prayers and reflections on the enduring impact of a life well lived.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the governor’s wives, Dr. Gloria Diri and Justice Patience Diri; Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo; and members of the National Assembly including Hon. Fred Agbedi (Sagbama/Ekeremor) and Hon. Marie Ebikake (Nembe/Brass).

Also present were members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff Dr. Peter Akpe, and several members of the State Executive Council.

Traditional and security leaders also graced the event, including the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, King Bubaraye Dakolo; retired Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mathew Seiyefa; and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Michael Zuokumo.

Former Fédération Internationale de Football Association ( FIFA) Board member, Amaju Pinnick was also among those who paid their respects.
