
Gov. Diri charges contractors to fast-track Nembe-Brass Road phase 2

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State met on Tuesday with the Chairman of AIL Infrastructure Limited, Mr Abiodun Otunola, at Government House, Yenagoa.
The discussion centred on the commencement of the second phase of the Nembe-Brass road construction, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of this crucial infrastructure project.
Diri acknowledged the historical significance of the Nembe-Brass road, a vision conceived over six decades ago, and commended the state government’s bold decision to initiate the project despite its considerable financial implications. He described the initiative as a vital step towards improving connectivity, fostering economic development, and unlocking the region’s potential along the Atlantic Ocean.
He stated: “Let me extend my heartfelt appreciation to our father and leader for his unwavering support and dedication to the advancement of Bayelsa State.
“In my view, and that of the citizens of Bayelsa State, this project affirms Mr President’s commitment to inclusive national development. The people of Bayelsa deeply value this landmark approval granted by Mr President for our state.
“The vision for the Nembe-Brass road dates back over 60 years. One can only imagine the anticipation surrounding this project.
“The Bayelsa State government took the courageous step of launching the Nembe-Brass road project, fully aware of the significant financial requirements, yet driven by the necessity to strengthen connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and tap into the vast economic opportunities provided by access to the Atlantic Ocean.”
The meeting was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, former Rivers State military administrator King Alfred Diette-Spiff, and Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere.
Also in attendance were the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Chief of Staff, Dr Peter Akpe, members of the House of Assembly, and traditional rulers such as King Bubaraye Dakolo.
Local government officials, including Hon. Lucky Febo of Brass and Hon. David Alagoa of Nembe, also participated, demonstrating the collective commitment to advancing the project.
