Gov. Abiodun charges Ogun journalists on professionalism

The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun during his unscheduled visit to Iwe Iroyin, the secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council on Tuesday urged journalists to be more professional and patriotic while carrying out their role as watchdog and essential partners in progress of nation building.
Gov Abiodun said he was at secretariat of the journalists in the state to salute them for their support and co-operation with his government saying that their daily reportage had helped to project the modest achievements of his administration.
Promising to support the NUJ for a more conducive environment to operate, Governor Abiodun promised to see to the request of the journalists such as helping to build a new secretariat at NUJ permanent site, Leme Abeokuta among others.
“I want to commend your consciousness for professionalism, by being objective and patriotic in your reportage with focus of building a strong socio-economic bridge for our dear state and for the coming generations.
“As you all know, our state and the country at large are in dire need of systemic media space that is progressive in orientation and developmental in thinking, for the purpose of creating investment-friendly image,” he added
Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun has urged Nigerians to continue to remain patience with the Federal Government, saying that there will be gains at the end of the pains occasioned by the economic hardship through the recent fuel subsidy removal.
The Governor noted that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration is working assiduously to doing everything he can to fulfil everything as encapsulated in the renewed hope manifesto.
“I also want to thoroughly you plead to all of us to continue to be very patient, not just with this present administration but with the Federal Government.
“The Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is doing everything he can to fulfill everything as encapsulated in the renewed hope manifesto.
“As we all witnessed the President hit the ground running the day he was inaugurated. He removed subsidy and deregulated the price on petrol.
“This was a burden that the country could no longer shoulder. Had we continued, this country would have been totally bankrupt.
“Not only did he do that, he quickly followed through by ensuring the convergence of naira to dollar exchange rate,” he added
Speaking earlier, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju commended the Governor for the visit, while urging him to ensure that his media team are thoroughbred professionals.
